FAQ
Getting Started and General Psychotherapy QuestionsÂ
What exactly is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a supportive and collaborative space where we work together to understand your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. It is a gentle conversation focused on your unique well-being, helping you find clarity, work on your goals, and resilience at your own pace.
What if I am not ready to talk about certain things?
You are in complete control of your narrative. We move at a speed that feels manageable for you, and you never have to share more than you feel ready for. I am here to hold space for you, honoring your boundaries and your personal history throughout our journey. If there is ever something that you don't want to discuss then just let me know.Â
How long does the psychotherapy process usually take?
Healing is not a linear process, and the duration of therapy depends on your individual needs and goals. Whether you are looking for short-term support during a transition or long-term therapeutic work, we check in regularly to ensure our sessions remain meaningful and aligned with your growth. Qualitative measures (words) and quantitative measures (numbers) will be used to check in on how your therapy is progressing. It is important to note that at times, therapy can make things feel worse before they start to feel better since topics that come up might be ones you have never discussed with others.Â
How do we get started?
Beginning your journey is a brave first step. We can start with a brief consultation to discuss your needs and see if we are a good fit. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions and feel out the therapeutic connection in a pressure-free way.
How often should we meet?
The regularity of our sessions will be determined collaboratively when assessing your needs and risks. Some individuals will do best with weekly sessions, some biweekly, and others monthly. I offer session durations of 60 minutes, 90 minutes, and 120 minutes. The regularity of your sessions can be flexible and change throughout your psychotherapy journey depending on your needs.Â
Do you offer virtual therapy, in person, or both?
I provide phone therapy and virtual telahealth services through a secure platform to individuals throughout Ontario, Canada. Furthermore, I offer in person and walk and talk therapy to individuals who are located in the Kingston and Amherstview area.

What is your Cancellation Policy?Â
I require at least 24 hours notice for all appointment cancellations or rescheduling.
Each client is offered one courtesy late cancellation or missed appointment without charge. After this one-time courtesy, late cancellations (less than 24 hours’ notice) and missed appointments will be charged 50% of the session fee. This fee will be waived if you reschedule your session within the same week that you cancelled.Â

This policy helps ensure appointment times remain available for clients seeking support while also allowing flexibility for unexpected circumstances. I understand that emergencies and unavoidable situations can arise, and these will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
How can I pay you?Â
There are various ways that you can pay me including self pay through visa, debit, e-transfer, or cash. Furthermore, invoices can be provided so you can get reimbursed through insurance.Â
Are my Children Allowed in my Session?Â
I strongly believe that therapy should be as accessible as possible for parents. For this reason, I welcome children in session when needed and have a variety of activities available to help keep them engaged including toys, games, bouncers, rockers, snacks, outdoor space., etc. This can reduce barriers to accessing therapy by allowing parents to attend appointments without having to arrange childcare.

That said, it's important to recognize that having children present can sometimes create distractions or make it more difficult to openly discuss certain topics. Children are often more aware of and affected by conversations than we may realize, so it's important to consider what is being discussed during sessions.

During our consultation, we can talk about your unique circumstances and determine what approach will best support your therapeutic goals. My priority is to work collaboratively with you to find a solution that balances accessibility, comfort, and the effectiveness of therapy.
