Helping with Depression and Mood Concerns

In my practice, I support individuals who are moving through various mood-related experiences, including Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Bipolar Disorder (BD I & BD II), and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Noticing the Signs of Low Mood

Depression and mood fluctuations impact every person uniquely. You may recognize some of these physical and emotional signs in your daily life.

Energy and Sleep

You might feel a heavy sense of fatigue, changes in your sleeping patterns, or a physical slowness that makes basic tasks feel exhausting.

Emotional Impact

Feeling a persistent sense of emptiness, losing interest in hobbies, or experiencing significant shifts in how you view yourself and your worth.

Mental Fog or Focus

Difficulty concentrating on work, making simple decisions, or feeling like your mind is moving through a thick cloud of sadness or apathy.

Psychotherapeutic Modalities that Might be Used:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you recognize and dismantle the thought loops (ruminations) that fuel hopelessness and low mood. By adjusting these internal narratives and introducing gentle behavioral changes, we work to lift the fog of depression and help you reconnect with a sense of personal vitality.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Through ACT, we practice observing heavy emotions without letting them define your identity. I guide you in staying present and aligning with your deep values, making it possible to lead a rich, purposeful life even during challenging mood cycles, all while maintaining a foundation of self-kindness.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

I incorporate DBT skills to help you navigate intense moods and emotional waves. We focus on distress tolerance and emotion regulation, providing you with practical tools to feel more in control when life feels overwhelming. It is a warm, skill-based way to build stability for those living with bipolar disorder, SAD, self harm, suicidality, or depression.

Somatic and Trauma-Informed Care

Because mood struggles are often physically stored in the nervous system, I use somatic awareness to help you process where emotions land in your body. We work together to move your system from a state of shutdown or agitation back into a place of felt safety, groundedness, and internal regulation.

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) helps quiet the harsh inner critic that often accompanies depression. We shift from self-judgment toward a stance of compassion. By understanding how your brain attempts to protect you, we foster a nurturing relationship with yourself that reduces shame and builds emotional security.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Solution Focused Brief Therapy can be used to honor your inherent strengths and the stabilizing power of routine. We identify small, realistic goals and build consistent habits that act as anchors, helping you maintain balance and resilience through every seasonal shift and life transition.
