Signs of Perinatal Struggles

The symptoms of perinatal and postpartum psychological disorders can vary widely. You might notice these common emotional and physical shifts in your life.

Sleep and Energy

Feeling exhausted yet unable to sleep even when the baby sleeps, or experiencing a heavy letdown in energy that makes basic care feel hard.

Intrusive Thoughts

Experiencing repetitive, scary thoughts about the baby's safety or your own, or feeling a persistent sense of worry that is hard to quiet down.

Mood and Connection

Fearing like you aren't bonding, feeling irritable with your partner, or moving through a fog of sadness or apathy that feels hard to escape.

Psychotherapeutic Modalities That Might be Utilized

CBT for Perinatal Wellness

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you identify and gently challenge the frightening thoughts or self-judgments that might arise. We work to adjust these internal narratives, providing you with practical coping skills to reduce maladaptive thoughts and improve your daily well-being.

ACT for Life Transitions

Through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we focus on accepting the difficult emotions of the perinatal period and parenting without letting them define your worth. I help you stay present and aligned with your values as a parent and an individual, allowing for a purposeful life.

DBT Skills for Emotional Regulation

I integrate DBT skills to help you manage the intense emotional waves that can arise within fertility, the perinatal period, and postpartum. We focus on mindfulness, distress tolerance, regulation, and interpersonal skills to give you tangible tools to stay grounded when the demands of this period feel overwhelming. This approach provides a stable foundation for those experiencing significant mood fluctuations.

Nervous System & Trauma Care

Because trauma and postpartum stress are often held in the body, I use somatic awareness to help you process these physical sensations. We work collaboratively to move your nervous system from a state of hyper-vigilance or shutdown back into a place of felt safety and internal calm.

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is vital for individuals struggling with a harsh inner critic. We shift from self-blame toward radical self-care, understanding that your brain is trying to protect you. This fosters a nurturing relationship with yourself that reduces shame and builds security.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) & Routine Care

I also utilize Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to honor your strengths. We identify small, realistic goals and build gentle routines that act as anchors, helping you maintain balance and resilience as you navigate the significant transitions of fertility, pregnancy and the postpartum period.
